First show of the new year, which aired on NYE, looks back at some of the best from 2022.
By now I’m guessing that you’ve been inundated with a ton of ‘best of’ lists over the last several weeks. While you might be asking yourself ‘when are we going to move on already’, it’s important that we take some time to remember and reflect on some of the releases that left their mark on this past year.
My ‘rewind’ special that traditionally airs on the final broadcast of the year is my favorite show to put together annually. During all four seasons, when I’m producing and hosting ‘regular’ weekly episodes, I often find myself saying ‘ooohhh I’m definitely playing this on my ‘rewind’ episode in December. Picking four hours worth of new music to highlight comes so easily each year, and 2022 was no exception.
One of the benefits of doing a ‘rewind’ show on the very last day of the year was that I had weeks to indulge and observe everybody else’s ‘best of’ lists and see what they considered noteworthy over the past twelve months. Aside from certain undeniable artists like Kendrick Lamar and Lucrecia Dalt that were on a good number of other ‘best of’ lists, most of the names that made an appearance on my ‘rewind’ program you won’t find on most ‘best of’ lists and/or shows.
Pleased to featured familiar names such as Jameszoo, Osunlade, Kyle Hall, Theo Parrish, K15, dego and Kaidi Tatham on yet another ‘rewind’ episode, as they continue to make timeless music over the years. What’s also exciting is to see the likes of Chelsea Carmichael, Arnheim, Mejiwahn, Hugo LX, Karu and Wax Machine make their debuts on this year’s ‘rewind’ show with rather exceptional outputs of their own.
Whether it’s jazz or house or experimental or hiphop, practically every one of the fifty-five songs that you’ll hear on this broadcast evoked some sort of emotion or memories to me, and I feel grateful to have a platform on the airwaves to be able to share these songs with listeners on a regular schedule.

Putting together the show takes a lot of time and effort, but it’s something that I love to do and I feel better about what comes out over the airwaves with each passing broadcast. This could easily be said about any episode that I put together throughout the year, but if I’m able to turn you on to some music that speaks to you or even take your mind off of your woes for just a few hours each week I’ll consider that a success.
