Fifth and final show of the month, wrapping up January with an array of machine funk, hypnotic balearica, modal jazz, heady loops, unbridled afrobeat, and spiritual techno. I know that we’re only a month in to the new year, but I’m rather pleased with the sound of 2023 so far.
New music this week from some favorites such as Antti Lötjönen, Emanuel Harrold, Malcolm Strachan, Kyle Hall, Altın Gün, Super Yamba Band, DJ Rocca, Yazmin Lacey, Benny Sings, WheelUP, and Genevieve Artadi.
As for names that made their debut on the show, there’s Alessia Obino, The Cosmologist, Andy Hay, Adi Oasis, Blue Moka, VRIL, and The Bahama Soul Club.
You’ll hear picks from three compilations I’ve been rinsing a lot lately - Folk Funk & Trippy Troubadours Volume One on Re:Warm, For The Love of You Vol. 2.1 on Athens of the North, and 13 Years Later Part 1 on Local Talk.
